Fans of Stephen King will find themselves over the moon as not one, but two, high-profile adaptations arrive in the second half of 2017 The Dark Tower, It and several other classic monsters The Mummy, Kong: Skull Island will be resurrected during the year. Below you will find a list of 42 of the biggest movies scheduled for release, but there is so much more coming as well. Check it out, and let us know what you plan on seeing. Underworld: Blood Wars Release Date: Jan. That said, neither group has much love for Kate Beckinsale's Selene who is still out and about doing everything she can to end the war between the two groups. Anna Foerster directs the movie which features Theo James and Charles Dance as well. Both actors also appeared in Underworld: Awakening, the entry immediately preceding this one. Split Release Date: Jan. The actor plays Kevin, a man with no fewer than 23 different personalities, at least one of which has kidnapped three teenage girls. Kevin also hints at another personality, one which might be able to take control of all the rest. As a Shyamalan movie, whether turns out to be more The Sixth Sense or The Lady in the Water, expect lots of twists, turns, and unexpected surprises… especially right before the end credits roll. As the title of this third entry indicates if you know that Diesel plays Xander Cage in the franchise , Diesel is back for this 2017 outing, returning to the character 15 years later. Something to do with saving the world, although we prefer the description Samuel L. Jackson who did appear in both the original and sequel gives in the trailer which essentially amounts to beat the bad guys and look awesome. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter Release Date: Jan. Anderson says that this is going to be the final movie in the series. But whether or not this is the last Resident Evil movie, we can tell you that Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Eoin Macken, and William Levy all appear in the film which promises to take Alice back to Raccoon City and The Hive. The movie has made it clear that there will be answers this time out about Umbrella's real mission and what's going on with Alice. One wonders though whether those answers will simply lead to more questions. Rings Release Date: Feb. After all, just like the killers they feature, no good horror franchise stays dead. Javier Gutierrez is directing the movie, the plot of which involves a woman who becomes concerned when her boyfriend learns about a mysterious videotape that kills those who watch it. Matilda Lutz, Aimee Teegarden, Johnny Galecki, and Alex Roe star. The Space Between Us Release Date: Feb. And so, Keanu Reeves is suiting up as the assassin once more, and this time he's heading to Rome. Expect the city to experience a lot of blood and death and a decent amount of mayhem. The movie is being helmed by Chad Stahelski and also features Common, Ian McShane, Ruby Rose, Riccardo Scamarcio, John Leguizamo, and Laurence Fishburne. Which color pill did you take again? The LEGO Batman Movie Release Date: Feb. How exactly this all may fit into the LEGO universe created for the first film remains to be seen, but we certainly hope that it will be just as clever and funny. The Great Wall Release Date: Feb. Jing Tian, Pedro Pascal, and Willem Dafoe also star. This is Yimou's first English-language production, but the director has garnered acclaim for other work including Hero and House of Flying Daggers. Get Out Release Date: Feb. Is the tension that Chris feels during the weekend based upon the parents' concerns over the interracial nature of the relationship or, perhaps, is there something potentially more sinister at work? The trailer definitely indicates the latter, even if it doesn't provide all the details. This is it, the final time that Hugh Jackman will wear the claws of Wolverine. What we can tell you is that it has been said that this is the last time that Hugh Jackman is going to play the Marvel mutant on the big screen. This is Jackman's third solo film as the character, with the actor also appearing at least as a cameo in six other X-Men films. Patrick Stewart is reprising his role as Professor X for the movie which sees James Mangold, who directed The Wolverine, returning to helm. This entry features an older version of Logan than we have seen before. T2: Trainspotting Release Date: Mar. Instead, this is a sequel to Danny Boyle's Trainspotting, a movie which burst onto the scene 21 years ago. The original cast—Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, and Robert Carlyle—are back for this outing, as is Boyle. It all may seem improbable that a Trainspotting sequel is here after all this time, but this is indeed happening. Kong: Skull Island Release Date: Mar. Kong, as the trailer for this film tells us, is King. Jordan Vogt-Roberts directs a cast that includes Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Reilly, Corey Hawkins, and John Goodman in this story of a group of explorers venturing to an island in the Pacific and getting more than they bargained for. Not only do they have to worry about the big guy roaming the land, there are also some horrifically evil creatures that live underground which prove rather menacing. Beauty and the Beast Release Date: Mar. Emma Watson stars here as Belle, with Downton Abbey's Dan Stevens playing the Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston he's especially good at expectorating , Josh Gad as Lefou, and more. Power Rangers Release Date: Mar. The Rangers are going to have to come to terms with their new abilities quickly because Elizabeth Banks' Repulsa looks formidable. Then again, so do the Rangers in their spiffy suits. Dean Israelite directs with Bill Hader and Bryan Cranston also appearing in the film. Ghost in the Shell Release Date: Mar. For the uninitiated, Johansson's character is a cyborg who helps stop bad guys. Of course, as the first trailer indicates, the people whom she's working for may not quite be what they seem. Expect the movie to deliver some big action sequences. The Fate of the Furious Release Date: Apr. He is going to be joined by other returning stars including Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Kurt Russell, and Jason Statham. But they aren't stopping there. Gary Gray-directed movie also stars Charlize Theron, Helen Mirren, and Scott Eastwood. The first trailer indicates that Dom may be a bad guy this time out. Is he running a con or back to his thieving ways? Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. The first Marvel movie of the year sees the return of everyone's favorite band of misfits which also includes Gamora, Drax, and Rocket Raccoon and if the first two trailers can be believed, there is going to be just as much off-kilter action and humor as there was the first time out… plus Guardians 2 promises us more Baby Groot. Kurt Russell is joining up as well for good measure. James Gunn is helming the team once more and we ought to find out what's on Awesome Mix Vol. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword Release Date: May. This Guy Ritchie-directed movie is opting for the sword in the stone bit. The tale features Arthur Charlie Hunnam growing up in the streets, completely unaware of his kingly origins and his uncle, Vortigern Jude Law , sitting on the throne. One wonders whether he will still be there when the movie ends. Eric Bana, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Aidan Gillen, and Djimon Hounsou also appear. Alien: Covenant Release Date: May 19 US, UK , TBA AU This is the long-awaited Prometheus sequel, and it promises the return of both Michael Fassbender's David and director Ridley Scott at the helm. The story features a colony ship, Covenant, heading for a planet that they think will be great but actually may hide some dark and terrible secrets this last shouldn't come as much of a surprise as it wouldn't be an Alien movie if things didn't go very badly. Katherine Waterston and Billy Crudup also star. Baywatch Release Date: May 26 US , May 12 UK , May 11 AU If you were in distress in the ocean, you might choose to look for, and cling to, the biggest rock you could find. Well, this update of the incredibly successful syndicated television series has a massive rock front and center — Dwayne Johnson. Zach Efron, Alex Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, and Ilfenesh Hadera also star in the movie directed by Seth Gordon. The tale finds Johnson's lifeguard having trouble with a newbie Efron whom Johnson is required to include on the Baywatch team against his wishes. As with previous films, Geoffrey Rush will be reprising the role of Barbossa too. Naturally, this poses as problem for Jack who sets his sights on the Trident of Poseidon as his one hope for survival. Perhaps against his will, Jack finds help from an astronomer, Carina Smyth Kaya Scodelario , and a sailor in the Royal Navy, Henry Brenton Thwaites , to help him on his quest. Last year may not have been the greatest of years for DC movies, but while Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice generally earned mixed to negative reviews, one of the elements people seemed most pleased with was Gal Gadot's take on Wonder Woman. Now, here she is in her own film, a movie which will tell the tale of Diana learning of a war out in the world and leaving her home in order to help stop evil from spreading. Will Diana's experiences here fully explain her reticence to get involved in BvS? Gadot is joined by Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen, David Thewlis, and Danny Huston in this movie directed by Patty Jenkins. The Mummy Release Date: June 9 US, UK , June 8 AU Tom Cruise stars in this updated take on the classic Universal monster. Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, and Russell Crowe also star in the film which may help auger in a whole new connected franchise of Universal Monsters. Cars 3 Release Date: June 16 US , July 14 UK , June 22 AU If you watched the first teaser for you may very well have been devastated by what you witnessed; Lightning McQueen, it seems, is going to be hitting an entirely different sort of rough patch in this entry. On the other hand, before the heartbreak, perhaps you were mesmerized by how incredible the animation looked in that teaser. Owen Wilson may be back as the voice of Lightning, but will the car ever race again? Brian Fee, who has worked on several other animated features, including as a storyboard artist on the first two Cars movies, is making his directorial debut with this one. Transformers: The Last Knight Release Date: June 23 US, UK , June 22 AU Mark Wahlberg is back for his second outing in a Transformers movie and Josh Duhamel is also returning for another entry. Anthony Hopkins is in the movie, Michael Bay is directing once more and Laura Haddock and Jerrod Carmichael are in the cast too. Oh, and there are these robots that can turn into vehicles and back again, some of the robots are bent on destroying everything in their path to becoming the ultimate power in the universe, other robots want to save the universe, there is going to be a whole lot of action, and… King Arthur? Trey Parker is voicing a bad guy… unless you really feel like Gru is the bad guy which would make Parker's bad guy the other bad guy unless two bad guys are too many. But, however you want to think about it, Parker's character, Balthazar Brat, was an '80s pop star back in the day before going evil. Spider-Man: Homecoming Release Date: July 7 US, UK , TBA AU After less than stellar receptions with two Amazing Spider-Man entries, Sony and Marvel worked out a deal to put Spider-Man into the MCU and last year featured Tom Holland's first appearance as the character in Captain America: Civil War. Now, Spidey's back in his own film, which is not to say that it will be wholly without any of our other MCU friends. For instance, Robert Downey Jr. Michael Keaton and Marisa Tomei are in the cast, which is being directed by Jon Watts. War for the Planet of the Apes Release Date: July 14 US, UK , July 13 AU The current run of Apes movies, of which this is the third, seem to be slowly working their way towards the world we first saw through the eyes of Charlton Heston back in the late 1960s well a version of that world anyway. In War, Andy Serkis again plays Caesar in this movie directed by Matt Reeves. The movie also stars Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Karin Konoval, Amiah Miller, and Terry Notary. Dunkirk Release Date: July 21 US, UK , July 20 AU How closely this Christopher Nolan film will hew to the true story of the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of Allied troops which took place in Dunkirk in 1940 remains to be seen, but the first trailer certainly makes for some tense viewing. The story of the rescue is a famous one and certainly worthy of the cast Nolan has put together, which includes Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance, and Harry Styles. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets Release Date: July 21 US , Aug. DeHaan is Valerian to Delevingne's Laureline, and both work as operatives who are tasked with keeping peace in the universe. On a personal level, Valerian would like to see their relationship turned romantic while Laureline is not so sure about that. Clive Owen plays their commander who sends them to the city of Alpha, which features 17 million inhabitants from thousands of different species, and not everyone is nice and happy-go-lucky. Maybe though one of them will be able to explain how a single city can have a thousand planets, because we're curious. The Dark Tower Release Date: July 28 US, UK , July 27 AU Yes, it's happening. Idris Elba is our gunslinger, Roland Deschain; Matthew McConaughey is our man in black, Walter; and Tom Taylor is Jake Chambers. But, just because it's going to be on the big screen doesn't mean that what we're going to get is a full on, 100% unabridged and unaltered adaptation of King's novel. You can be certain however that whatever director Nikolaj Arcel does alter will be highly scrutinized by longtime fans of the novels. Hopefully it manages to satisfy both those fans and bring newcomers into the fold, but its quest is a difficult one. Baby Driver Release Date: Aug. Elgort plays Baby, a getaway driver for a group of bank robbers, with Spacey playing the crime boss in charge. Baby, it seems, has an affinity not just for driving, but for music as well and would like to find a way to leave his current mode of employment. Annabelle 2 Release Date: Aug. Annabelle is back for another go-round, this time with David F. Sandberg Lights Out directing. The story features a dollmaker and his wife taking in a nun and some orphans, and the possessed doll not being terribly pleased with that state of affairs. Exactly how does she show this displeasure? Can she be stopped? Will we be able to sleep after getting the answers to those questions? Will this franchise ever combine universes with the Child's Play one in order to offer up the ultimate evil doll fight? Annabelle 2 stars Stephanie Sigman, Talitha Bateman, Lulu Wilson, Anthony LaPaglia, Miranda Otto, and more. Back in the day, 1990 to be precise, the classic Stephen King novel featuring Pennywise the Clown, which terrified readers, was turned into a miniseries which terrified viewers. Now, director Andrés Muschietti is bringing the story of disappearing children in Derry, Maine to the big screen to scare the bejesus out of a whole new generation. Bill Skarsgård is playing the evil clown in question and the nightmares of many will be returning because, as we all know, they all float down here a very phrase that gives many nightmares. The cast also includes Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Nicholas Hamilton. Blade Runner 2049 Release Date: Oct. The question has been plaguing fans of Ridley Scott's adaptation of Phillip K. Dick's novel for decades. Director Denis Villeneuve is helming this sequel which may not answer the question, but will most definitely see Harrison Ford return as Deckard, and Ryan Gosling, Dave Bautista, Jared Leto, and Robin Wright starring alongside him. The story is set to pick up years after the original film or perhaps one of the alternate versions of the original film and give us a whole new look at one potential future for our world. Expect replicants, police, and many questions. Kingsman The Golden Circle Release Date: Oct. Members of the original cast, including Taron Egerton, will be returning for the sequel which will add Channing Tatum and more. So, get out your best suit, and never forget, manners maketh man. Thor: Ragnarok Release Date: Nov. So, there are plenty of questions swirling around this third entry in the Thor series, like, is this Chris Hemsworth's last outing as the Norse god? While we can't answer that here, we do know that Mark Ruffalo is going to be in the movie as Bruce Banner and that Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, and Anthony Hopkins are all returning. Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Sam Neill, and Karl Urban are all also in the film, which is directed by Taika Waititi What We Do in the Shadows. Justice League Release Date: Nov. The movie promises to offer up not just The Dark Knight, but Wonder Woman Gal Gadot , The Flash Ezra Miller , Aquaman Jason Momoa , Cyborg Ray Fisher , and even the last son of Krypton Henry Cavill. Coco Release Date: Nov. Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector voice of Gael García Bernal , and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel's family history. Directed by Lee Unkrich Toy Story 3 , co-directed by Adrian Molina Monsters University and produced by Darla K. Anderson Toy Story 3. Star Wars: Episode VIII Release Date: Dec. Star Wars is back next year with the continuing adventures of Rey, Finn, and Poe as they try to combat the evil of Snoke, Kylo Ren, and the dreaded First Order.
